Taught by Richard Henry, this introductory workshop is suitable for beginners, or those seeking to refresh their skills.
This is the first of an ON-LINE series of workshops exploring 6 and 12-fold symmetry. Patterns from this family arguably the most universal found across the Islamic world and offer the perfect introduction to Islamic geometric art. Using the traditional tools of compass and straight edge we will recreate a classical design based upon this symmetry. There will be a brief contextual slide lecture referencing the underlying symbolism of this family of patterns and illustrating their historical occurences. Each participant will receive a PDF handout detailing the steps undertaken to re-create the design covered in class, so that students can re-create the design at home later. The course content will complement, but differ from our other ON-LINE courses. (Scroll through gallery in banner above to see images of historical 6-fold designs and former students’ work ).
