Special Workshop: Traditional Plaster Carving Techniques
Join us for a hands-on session dedicated to the traditional tools and techniques of plaster carving, inspired by Islamic art. You’ll explore a variety of historic carving methods and complete at least one finished plaster panel to take home.
Experience the satisfaction of carving your own star pattern, guided by a practicing sculptor in his studio. Introductory exercises will focus on the geometric and biomorphic patterns commonly found across Islamic cultures, but final projects can incorporate a wide range of traditional designs.
Participants will learn both relief and piercing carving techniques, and receive an introduction to plaster casting and mold making.
