This series is a structured course and was presented live from August – September 2020.

Taught by Richard Henry, this series of classes focuses upon the Alhambra.

The Nasrid Palaces of the Alhambra, dating from the 13-15th century, represent a high point in Islamic civilisation and are a lasting symbol of the Golden Age of Andalusia. The building complex contains an extraordinary array of designs, many of which are unique in the Islamic world and have proven an inspiration for artists of both east and west, including M C Escher, whose brilliant design work was transformed upon visiting the Alhmabra.

This introductory / post-beginner level course, is open to beginners and those more experienced students seeking to refresh or develop their skills. Over 5 weeks we will study some of the most characteristic surface patterns from the building complex, starting from the simplest designs and tessellations we will progressively work towards more complex patterns. Each session is 2 hours long. A workshop video and additional supporting material is available to download to ALL registrants. (Scroll through gallery in banner above to see images of patterns from the Alhambra, typical of those that we will examine in this series, as well as former students’ work ).

On-line Registration Fee – Full Series: £60.
