Learn about the various woodworking traditional techniques used in Islamic cultures.
Have you ever been intrigued by a beautiful wood carvings and wondered what it would be like to make one yourself? Now’s your chance to learn all about the specialist tools and techniques involved in woodcarving, from how to sharpen the various chisels and knives to identifying woods, surface finishes and planning and making an original piece.
At the end of the course, everyone will have a least one finished piece to take home with them.

The course will begin with a series of exercises and familiarization with the specialist tools and techniques used to carve wood from around the world.
Participants will be introduced to a selection of woods and carve a piece using a design of their choosing from a Lime wood block.
We will look at classical decorative motifs, patterns and carving styles from a variety of cultures.
This course is an opportunity for more advanced participants to develop more skills in woodcarving and sculpture.
Students will develop an understanding of scale and proportion and work through the stages necessary to develop an idea from a maquette to the completed piece.
