Art of Islamic Pattern are happy to confirm a five-day workshop in Marrakech, Morocco. The study trip will include visits to some of the most remarkable architectural masterpieces in the Islamic world: including the Ben Youssef Madrasa (14th century) the Bahia Palace (19th C), the Saadian Tombs (16th C) and other unique monuments. The course will be hosted in Riad Karmela, a beautiful traditional riad in the heart of the medina and offers the opportunity to experience making geometric and biomorphic designs using traditional methods in the context of a UNESCO world heritage site. In addition to drawing classes and site visits, there will also be a traditional pottery class with local craftsmen in Dar Cherifa, one of the oldest houses in the ancient medina (picture below) .
The course can be taken in combination with the Fez Study Trip , which has completely different content, taking place the following week – participants combining both trips will receive a 10% discount off the combined total fee.
Note: As with all our study trips, all teaching material will be based upon local sources: on this trip the palaces and madrassas of Marrakech. The content is different to our London courses and all other study trips. The Ben Youssef Madrasa may be closed for renovations in April 2020.
