NOTE: This work shop was presented LIVE on 18th July 2020. A video recording, together with slides, handouts and supporting material is available by registering on the right-hand panel. You will receive access to the material within 24 hours of registration.
Taught by Richard Henry, this ‘post-beginner’/intermediate workshop is suitable for those with some experience of constructing patterns with compass and straight edge. It is open to beginners, but if you are new to this discipline it would be advisable to start with earlier workshops in this series.
Patterns based upon 5 and 10-fold symmetry are among the most beautiful and subtle found within Islamic art. This is the fourth of an ON-LINE series of workshops exploring 5-fold symmetry. There will be 5 ‘Exploring 5-Fold Symmetry’ sessions in total.
This week we will be recreating a stunning 10-fold rosette which appears in many locations across Egypt, Anatolia and notably in the Gayer Anderson House in Cairo (image below). There will be a brief contextual slide lecture and each student will receive a video recording of the workshop, together with PDF handouts and a additional supporting material. Although this can be taken as a stand-alone workshop, we will build upon themes introduced in earlier workshops in the ‘Exploring 5-Fold Symmetry’ series which can be downloaded from our archive. (Scroll through gallery in banner above to see historical examples of this weeks pattern, as well as related 10-fold designs and former students’ work ).
On-line Registration Fee: £10 – £15, £45 – £70 full series of 5 workshops.
You will receive payment confirmation and within 48 hours before the start of the workshop, and receive a link with joining instructions for the zoom workshop.
Late Registration and Cut-Off: Anyone registering any later than 12:00 midday BST (GMT +1) on the day of the workshop, may be too late to receive the access codes in time to access the afternoon workshop. However everyone who registers will receive a link the recording and other supporting materials within 48 hours of the end of the workshop.
The course will require you to download the free app Zoom
