On-line Introductory Workshop
Taught by Richard Henry, this introductory workshop is suitable for beginners, or those seeking to refresh their skills. This is the final workshop of an ON-LINE series exploring 6 and 12-fold symmetry. There are 5 ‘Exploring 6-Fold Symmetry’ sessions in total. Participants can register for each session on a drop in basis, or alternatively register for the whole 5 workshop series for a discount and receive access to all upcoming ‘Exploring 6-Fold Symmetry’ workshops, as well as access to video recordings of all previously presented sessions.
This final week we will re-create the classic 12-fold rosette, which features as a cut-stone mosaic floor in the Bayt El-Kredlea in Cairo (images above and below) dating from the Ottoman period. We will discuss the historical occurrences of this pattern and the wider family of designs that it gives birth to. Each participant will receive a PDF handout detailing the steps undertaken to re-create the design, as well as access to a video recording of the session and additional supporting material. The course content will complement, but differ from our other ON-LINE courses. (Scroll through gallery in banner above to see images of historical instances of the patterns covered in this series, as well as former students’ work ).
On-line Registration Fee: £10 – £15 per session. Full Series £45 – £70
