Make a set of ceramic tiles over 2 sessions.
All equipment & materials included.
Open to all abilities.
Learn about the various techniques used in Islamic cultures to make ceramics, from Zelij mosaics to Iznik tiles!
The first session will include an introduction to the world of ceramics as well as several demonstrations. Participants will then choose a pattern and use a plaster batt to press a number of earthenware tiles from moulds. Between the two sessions these tiles will be air dried and then bisque fired (a preliminary firing) to 1060 degrees°C. The second session is longer, dedicated to colour theory and painting the tiles with glaze. The tiles are then fired again to 1180°C, after which they will be ready to be hung on the wall, used outdoors or as a trivet (to protect tables from hot pans).
